H1279, a bill authorizing county requirements for proof of lawful presence and restricting down payment assistance and homeownership programs to persons lawfully present in the United States, died in Commerce Committee.
The bill would have prohibited state, local, and private entities from providing down payment assistance to persons not lawfully present in the United States, required immediate repayment and foreclosure initiation if assistance was provided, restricted eligibility for Florida Homeownership Assistance Program and Florida Hometown Hero Program to lawfully present persons, required all private employers to use E-Verify for new employee verification, and prohibited money services business licensees from initiating foreign remittance transfers without verifying the sender is not an unauthorized alien.

The bill died in Commerce Committee on May 3, 2025, and did not become law.
